The amount of data available and produced every day is exploding – data has become an important raw material that is of high importance in nearly every industry sector worldwide. Therefore a vital data economy and a successfully working Data-Services Ecosystem in Austria is one of the factors to enable and ensure sustainable employment and growth and thereby societal stability and well-being.

Martin Kaltenböck (M) studied communication, psychology and marketing at the University of Vienna. He is co-founder and managing partner of the Semantic Web Company and as CFO responsible for financial, legal and organisational issues.
The European Patent Office (EPO) provides patent protection for inventions in up to 40 European countries on the basis of one single application. The EPO also publishes these patents and make them available to the public in a variety of formats: via online tools, web services or bulk data. To be prepared for the future and make patent information useful for as many user groups as possible, in spring 2018 the meta-data (aka bibliographic data) of all EP patents since 1978 has been made available in the data set “Linked open EP data”.

Martin Kracker works at the European Patent Office (EPO) as project manager in the department of patent information dissemination. He is responsible for implementing and maintaining publicly available databases of worldwide patent information. Their main users are international organisations, universities, patent offices and large and medium enterprises.
